My work illustrating textbooks for middle and high school students requires research, technical accuracy and being able to understand and follow detailed instructions and accessibility requirements - and knowing when to ask questions or suggest alterations to a color palette to make an illustration more accurate or appealing. I think science textbooks should be visually engaging as well as educational, and that the two goals aren't mutually exclusive.
