SFGHF Hearts in San Francisco 2026
I'm incredibly honored to be chosen as one of the 2026 artists for the San Francisco General Hospital Foundation's Hearts in San Francisco fundraiser. Painting on a 3D, curved surface was an interesting challenge. And learning about the work the foundation does and hearing the other artists' stories was inspiring!

From my home in Oakland, San Francisco often appears as just a few iconic structures, like Sutro Tower and the Golden Gate Bridge, jutting out of a sea of fog. I like the way the swirls of fog in this piece mimic the ocean’s waves, evoking the traditional Japanese Seigaiha pattern, symbolizing resilience and the ability to weather difficult times. Drawing these endless curls of fog is a soothing, meditative practice, and I hope looking at them will be, too. The hand-drawn curls, sometimes wavy or uneven, show the human touch of the artist’s hand.
On the back of the piece, the waves become San Francisco’s iconic rainbow symbolizing hope and Pride. The overlapping and interlocking circles and arcs represent the many layers of people and personalities in San Francisco, and how they come together to create a beautiful whole.
